United face Newcastle in Premier League opener

The last season might only just have finished but fixtures for the 2008-9 Premier League are out - and United face Newcastle at home in their first match on 16 August.

Surely nothing can be as bad as last season's opener which saw Wayne Rooney break his foot in a goalless draw with Reading?

After an away trip to Portsmouth (always tricky) and what should be a straightforward home fixture with Fulham, United play Liverpool and Chelsea in consecutive away fixtures on 13 and 20 September.

So we won't have to wait too long before Sir Alex Ferguson comes face to face with Scolari...
